A Future-Oriented Grain System for Les Cultures Gervanced

Posted on March 18, 2025
Last summer, there was novelty on the horizon on 4e Rang in Saint-Hughes when Les Cultures Gervanced had an impressive grain system installed.

The farm’s rich legacy began when Hector Cournoyer laid its foundations in the 1920s. His bold, visionary son Germain followed in his footsteps, working hard to take the business to new heights. Germain split up his assets in 2023 and founded Les Cultures Gervanced, Inc. After he passed away, his son Yvan took the reins with equal pride and determination. He now runs the business with his son Cédric, upholding this great family tradition with passion and dedication as did generations past. Les Cultures Gervanced Inc. and Ferme Brouillard & Cournoyer Inc. grow 3,000 acres of crops annually (45% corn, 40% soy and 15% wheat) and rear 75,000 broiler chickens per production period.

Yvan and Cédric eventually decided it was time to become self-sufficient and manage every step of their grain harvest, from storage to marketing, using state-of-the-art equipment.

Goals:

  • Anticipate future challenges to ensure the longevity of grain facilities
  • Increase storage capacity so harvests can be sold at the right time
  • Dry grain more quickly at a low cost while enhancing its quality
  • Automate and accelerate handling to minimize losses and labour costs
  • Remotely control the grain system to maximize available time and operational efficiency

CASA Drying and Storage Solution:

Benefits of Selected Products

The facility is essentially powered by a Strahl FR 7000-6 grain dryer. This Canadian-made high-tech dryer recovers waste heat to reduce gas consumption. What’s more, its 35 tons/hour processing capacity ensures quick, uniform drying for optimal grain weight and quality. In short, it offers peak performance!

The large GSI grain bins protect harvests against humidity and weather fluctuations, while the sturdy, efficient conveyors and elevators move grain seamlessly without any loss.

Thanks to the OPI Blue system, the farmers can remotely monitor grain bin temperature and humidity levels to maintain consistent quality. Last but not least, the EZ Control panels centralize operations in a simple, high-precision interface.

With all these assets, the Cournoyer family can reduce operating costs, improve stored grain quality and ensure the long-term profitability of their farming business.
